When you first arrived at H-3, the road going to the site gave you a real feel for what to expect.  Miles of black rock carved out of the side of a mountain!  The year we were there one truck went  "Over the edge".  The battery was found about five hundred yards from the engine while one wheel was about a half mile away!  As I recall, there were two people in the truck who jumped out just as the truck was about to go over the edge.  They had only minor bruises.  Needless to say, the truck was totaled!
