One of the hills behind H-3 proved a formidable challenge to the Hill Climbing Trucks of H-3.

While we were stationed there, somebody lost control on one of the mountain roads near the site.  The truck went over the edge but the airman jumped out right before.  The truck's battery was found 500 yards from the engine while one wheel was found almost a mile away!  Yes, driving some of those roads was an adventure!

We have  pictures of the truck that went over the edge courtesy of Paul James, a US Navy Seaman who was stationed at the Navy Communications Station at H-3 in 1967-68 and John Simander , a USAF Radar operator.   John's pictures are copies of the official investigation photographs of the wreckage.

If you click on the picture of the truck, you can see in greater detail just what the damages were.
