H-3 help did not just guide and protect the aircraft plying the North Atlantic Airspace, there was also a lighthouse on our peninsula to help the many ships traveling through our area.  It was maintained by the Icelandic government.  The large pole in the picture was, depending on who you believed, washed ashore in a vicious storm, left by the Navy from one of their old antennas or mysteriously appeared at daybreak after one of those long Arctic nights.

No matter how it got in front of the lighthouse, it did make for some nice pictures.  You could also get a nice picture of H-3 from the Lighthouse,
