In the winter of 1967-68 the floating ice pack came around the eastern side of Iceland.  This ice pack prevented our supply ships from arriving at Hofn and so, once our stocks ran out, we had to live without our vital supplies, like beer, for the month or two it took for the ice to dissipate.
