Many Airmen from H-3 spent hours using the three row boats provided to try to catch the trout that were in the part of the lake that was leased by the Air Force to provide one of the few recreational activities available at Hofn.  "Our" half of the lake was marked by plastic bottles buoys anchored to the bottom.  The favorite bait seemed to be raw liver provided by the Chow Hall.

One note, whenever you were planning on going fishing, you always collected the corks from the Champaign bottles that were consumed at H-3.  You needed these corks to patch the holes which were shot in the boat by, what were suspected to be, members of the local Communist party.
